Going to RIMYI, Pune

Travelling to the RIMYI in Pune for the first time, and maybe to India for the first time, is an exciting and often overwhelming experience. Pune is a large city about 300 kms south east of Mumbai on the high Deccan plateau.

The city is an extremely interesting place to explore, although often time is at a minimum between classes. If new to Pune it is worthwhile reading about the history and places to visit as well as knowing about the “tried and trusted” hotels and places to eat.

Travelling to the RIMYI in Pune for the first time, and maybe to India for the first time, is an exciting and often overwhelming experience. Pune is a large city about 300 kms south east of Mumbai on the high Deccan plateau. It has a large university, many colleges and a variety of industry. Pune has become recently, the major centre for the telecommunications industry. However, the infrastructure is poor and the rough inadequate conditions of the roads and public transport make travel difficult. With the recent increase in the development of industry, costs have risen sharply however it is still extremely inexpensive to visit Pune for the student attending classes.

The city is an extremely interesting place to explore, although often time is at a minimum between classes. If new to Pune it is worthwhile reading about the history and places to visit as well as knowing about the “tried and trusted” hotels and places to eat. The article “Going to Pune – A Practical Guide” was written by a certified teacher from the UK who has traveled to Pune on many occasions. In the article Kirsten Agar Ward gives information regarding traveling to and from Pune, where to eat, stay, visit as well as advising of the customs of India. The article contains references with perspective from the UK; however it was published in Yoga Vaani, December 2005 (No.84) with notes from an Australian perspective – air travel, visas etc. On request this article can be sent to you.
